Beautiful inside and out. You will be sorely missed Surina 💛 According to a statement by her family, Surina Shukri passed away on 29th February 2024, at about 9 am.
While fighting her own battles she never forgets to keep in touch and lend a helping hand as a mentor and an advisor for my venture, as a big sister in the industry, and as a friend to me. She was always so gracious with her time.
She told me in December 2023, that her cancer had relapsed and she was getting the medical care she needed. In true Surina style, she still found the time and energy to check in on me, send me positive vibes, and wish me Happy New Year 2024. She sounded good and confident, and I prayed that she would bounce back as she had before. But then my 20th February WhatsApp message to her was never answered. I was puzzled because she was always so quick and prompt in her replies.. and now, 9 days later, I know why 🥺💔
The photo was taken during one of our last meet-ups in 2022, my birthday lunch treat from Arwah - one of the many examples of how giving and thoughtful she was. Thank you for all the laughs, love, and warm candor, Surina.
As she had been there for me during my best and possibly one of my worst times, I hope I’ll be able to pay it forward to someone or some people one day and do it as well as she did, too, in her memory. I also hope she knew the many people she had inspired and the impact she had made in her lifetime.
